about what exactly virginia's role was in the american revolution? >> gladly. virginia's role, i tell my students, virginia played a crucial role in the revolution to a lot of folks that are knowledgeable of the revolution understand the role of people like washington and jefferson and such. but militarily speaking, virginia's role was gigantic, was huge. even though when you look for battlefields and you look for key events, military event, you don't find many except of course what happened at and at yorktown. nevertheless, virginia and served anywhere from canada all the way down to georgia on battlefields throughout and every huge part of the american army. including out less. so they played a crucial role in the war. and of course, and the revolution, and this is something in my research for other books, i've been kind of learning more about, the revolution was just the war from 1775-81. is also a lot of events that led up right you. 1760s, virginia played an important role in the opposition to british policies that led to combat in 1775. we played a leading role politically speaking

two school delays to tell you about at this time in west virginia grant county and mineral county schools will be delayed two hours today because of weather out there. we will, of course, bring you all the delays as they come in through the morning. >> first let's check in with meteorologist tom kierein who is joining us in the studio to give us an update. >> we had a couple of inches of snow where those schools are delayed. two inches of snow and sleet and closer to washington overnight we had about half an inch to just maybe a tenth of an inch of snow and sleet, far northern montgomery county and into parts of loudoun county, frederick county and panhandle of west virginia and around the northern blue ridge. the regional radar, see those areas of moving color, that is where you see the blue and green that's rain. we're getting scattered light rain across virginia. those pink zones mixing with a little bit of sleet. scattered sleet in the shenandoah valley. panhandle of west virginia. sleet and light snow moving into the southern shenandoah valley and southern west virginia. now,
will see snow. tonight virginia has declared a state of emergency because of the southern part of the state might get walloped. what can we expect? right down to sue palka we go in the weather center. >> we won't see anything going on around here tomorrow other than the arrival of the cold air which is already blowing into place. this will mainly be a saturday snow. we may not see the first flakes until the sun comes up on saturday, although that will be a different story for portions of virginia as this storm moves from southwest to northeast. so no flakes for the southern areas until predawn on saturday. we feel like our models are all in real good agreement that this thing continues to produce the heaviest snow bands south of d.c. and into central virginia as well as soutrn virginia. we'll probably get a small accumulation here in the metro area. i don't see it as anything that will cause big problems but i want to show you we do have some winter storm watches that are posted for tomorrow night and into saturday for central virginia just south of fredricksburg. perhaps those get expanded

news, the search for a suspected killer. virginia state police are looking for a man they say killing apeople. it's a search we have been tracking all morning long. the killings happened in appomattox, about four hours from here. we have the latest information. >> virginia state police just held a press conference updating the media on the manhunt and they say despite searching through the night the suspect is still on the loose. now, here's who they are searching for. he's 39 years old and his name is cristopher speight of appomattox. police believe he shot and killed eight people on tuesday afternoon. four victims were found outside of a home in appomattox. three more bodies found inside the home and another man was found injured on the side of the road and later died at a local hospital. police are in the process of identifying the eight victims. they were all adults, no kids an all acquainted with the suspect but police will not say how they were acquainted with the suspect nor will they speculate as to the motive. he is armed and dangerous. in fact yesterday the suspect allegedl
